MANILA, Philippines — Former San Juan City Mayor Guia Gomez has contracted COVID-19 for the second time, his son, former senator JV Ejercito revealed.

Ejercito said in a tweet on Friday night that their family hopes that her mother’s reinfection would be milder than the first one.

“Please pray for my mother, who again has tested positive for COVID.  Hoping this time it will be milder. Walang katapusan,” Ejercito said.

Several individuals on Twitter, including Senator Sherwin Gatchalian have sent out well wishes and prayers for the family.

Prior to Gomez’ reinfection, Ejercito’s father, former president Joseph Estrada also tested positive for COVID-19.

While Estrada tested negative recently, he was brought back to the intensive care unit due to a bacterial lung infection, according to Ejercito’s half-brother, former senator Jinggoy Estrada.

Last April 17, Jinggoy said that Estrada is doing better but is still in the ICU due to the infection.
