Sipalay City mayor tests positive for COVID-19

BACOLOD CITY –– Sipalay City Mayor Maria Gina Lizares has tested positive for COVID-19.

Lizares told the Inquirer that she has mild symptoms of the virus, such as a runny nose and cough.

“I have been adhering to protocols and been very conscious of my actions, but with our work as government servants, I also contracted this virus,” she said.

Lizares called on the public to be more careful, cooperative, and serious about the fight against COVID-19.

“We work to make everyone safe, but as you know, more and more of us are also being infected because our bodies also have limitations – we get weak due to circumstances beyond our control,” she said.

Lizares sought prayers for frontliners and everyone.

Numerous employees at the Sipalay City Government Center earlier tested positive for COVID-19, including the city administrator and her private secretary.

The Sipalay City Government Center that was closed for disinfection will resume operations at 50 percent capacity starting Thursday, April 22.
