MANILA, Philippines–The Facebook APAC Legal Law Enforcement Outreach has removed the pages responsible for tagging Facebook users, the Department of Justice’s Office of Cybercrime (OOC) said Wednesday.
“The administrators [of the pages with adult content responsible for tagging users] were sanctioned,” the Department of Justice’s Office of Cybercrime said in a statement.
The DOJ’s OOC made the statement after receiving confirmation from Facebook. The OOC raised the matter to Facebook after reports reached their office that netizens have been tagged to posts containing links with adult content.
Still, it warned netizens to remain vigilant not to click any further unfamiliar links and immediately report the posts.
“Do not click further and report the post,” it said.
Once the link was clicked, it explained that the user will be asked to install an apparent update to a player in order to watch the video in full which would result in more random tagging and exposing users to malware.
The OCC said the introduction or transmission of viruses, such as malware, to and interference in the functioning of computer systems are prohibited acts under Republic Act No. 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
“Let’s all be good netizens and practice the responsible use of social media,” it further stated.
