SAN ANTONIO, Zambales—The disease COVID-19 has claimed another life in Olongapo, that of an elderly patient, and raised the city’s death toll to 57.
In his daily report, Mayor Rolen Paulino Jr. said the latest fatality, a 68-year-old man, was the second senior citizen to die of COVID-19, which originated in China, in the last two days.
The patient suffered from respiratory ailments, diabetes and hypertension, which are considered to be cases of comorbidity that make COVID-19 deadlier.
Paulino also said that eight new COVID-19 cases were also added to the city’s tally that day.
Citing health data, Paulino said the patients were aged 23 to 78 and most had been infected by relatives.
The city now has 153 active COVID-19 cases. Since 2020, the city recorded a total of 1,337 cases with 1,127 considered as recovered patients.
