MANILA, Philippines — The eastern parts of Luzon can expect rainy days to persist as Typhoon Bising moves slowly, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Tuesday afternoon.

Latest reports from Pagasa said that the northern portions of Ilocos Region, the whole Cagayan Valley down to Aurora would still be affected by Bising on Wednesday.  The eastern parts of Quezon and the Bicol Region meanwhile would be hit by the trough or extension of the typhoon.

Bising, which was last spotted 475 kilometers east of Baler, Aurora, may start to move away from the landmass only after Thursday.

“Bukas ay generally apektado pa rin ‘yong silangang bahagi ng Luzon, particularly ‘yong Cagayan, Isabela, at ‘yong Batanes, maging sa Aurora ay asahan pa rin ang masungit at pabugso-bugsong panahon at mga pag-ulan,” weather specialist Joey Figuracion said.

(Tomorrow, the eastern parts of Luzon particularly the provinces of Cagayan, Isabela, Batanes, even Aurora would be generally affected by Bising, which means residents can expect cloudy and gloomy weather and gusts of wind accompanied by rains.)

“Sa bahagi ng Bicol Region asahan ‘yong kalat-kalat na pag-ulan dahil sa trough pa rin ng Bagyong Bising, at maging doon sa nalalabing bahagi pa ng Northern Luzon,”

(For the Bicol Region, they can expect scattered rain showers due to the trough of Typhoon Bising.  This would be the same scenario for the rest of Northern Luzon.)

As a result, the eastern portions would have relatively lower temperatures compared to the eastern side: Legazpi would have something around 24 to 31 degrees Celsius, Tuguegarao with 21 to 28 degrees, Laoag with 22 to 31 degrees, and Baguio with 14 to 23 degrees.

In contrast, Metro Manila would be warm at 24 to 33 degrees Celsius, Tagaytay with 22 to 30 degrees, and Puerto Princesa with 25 to 33 degrees.

For Visayas and Mindanao, weather would improve as temperatures return to their warm and humid condition. Tacloban may feel somewhere between 24 to 32 degrees Celsius, Cebu and Iloilo with 26 to 32 degrees, Zamboanga and Davao with 25 to 33 degrees, and Cagayan de Oro with 24 to 33 degrees.

Earlier, Pagasa said that Bising was able to maintain its strength, packing maximum sustained winds of 175 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 215 kph.

It is still moving north northwest slowly, and may be located 315 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City in Cagayan by Wednesday afternoon.
