BCDA adds 165 beds for COVID-19 isolation in New Clark City

CLARK FREEPORT—The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) added 165 beds as new COVID-19 cases continued to surge, according to an official.

The additional beds have been put in government residences at New Clark City, some 30 kilometers north of Clark, according to BCDA president Vivencio Dizon in a phone interview.

Available for use since Monday (April 19), the beds augmented the 1,100 beds at the north and south wings of the National Government Administrative Center (NGAC) and Athlete’s Village’s Building A and B, said Dizon who is also National Task Force Against COVID-19 deputy chief implementer and testing czar.

In a statement, BCDA said 86 percent, or 815, of the total beds have been occupied as of April 11 for the quarantine of persons exposed to infected persons or for isolation of persons with mild COVID-19 symptoms.

The four facilities in Clark have served 14,958 COVID-19 patients, BCDA said.

Dizon said the Clark facilities are receiving patients from Metro Manila.

He said testing sites in SM Mall of Asia, Ninoy Aquino Stadium, Philippine Arena and ACT Mobile Team that are co-managed by the BCDA have taken samples from 1.07 million people from May 5, 2020 to April 9, 2021.
