ANGELES CITY –– The local government here began distributing on Monday (April 19) free Internet cards to 65,000 Grades 4 to 12 students in the city’s public schools for their online learning.
The cards, which are for three-year use, give the pupils access to 700 WiFi spots for free internet connection, Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr. said in a phone interview.
“They get a free, unlimited, and stable WiFi connection and this makes their learning faster,” Lazatin said. One access point provides 50 to 100 Mbps.
A leading satellite broadband service provider in the country handed out 500 access spots for free. Angeles City paid P20 million for 200 access spots, the local government announced in a statement.
Access spots, or points, are laid out throughout the city, and these provide the signals for WiFi. The cards give the passwords to the access points.
The first 5,404 cards went to the City College of Angeles, Marisol Bliss, and Sta. Teresita elementary schools and Malabanias Integrated School.
The recipients of the cards got free tablets late last year from the local government.
