LEGAZPI CITY –– Work suspension in all government offices in Catanduanes is extended on Tuesday as Typhoon “Bising” (international name Surigae) continues to bring moderate to heavy rains that caused floods and landslides.
Gov. Joseph Cua initially declared suspension of work in government offices and online classes for public and private schools only for Monday but had to extend the declaration.
He said those involved in disaster management and delivery of necessities would continue their operations.
Josephine Benevidez, officer-in-charge of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of Virac, said waist-deep flood submerged areas near a river dike in Barangay Francia on Monday afternoon.
At 1:40 p.m. Monday, disaster personnel evacuated a family of four living near the dike to the Multipurpose Hall of the said village.
The road connecting Barangay Dugui Too and Hicming remains closed due to a landslide.
Meanwhile, the Obo spillway in San Miguel town that traverses Patagan Salvacion, Patagan Sta. Elena, Obo, Dayawa, Siay, Pacogon, and Arroyao Saday villages were unpassable due to the overflowing Bato River.
At least 11,956 families (47,045 individuals) living in areas prone to floods, landslides, and storm surges in the province were moved to safer grounds.
