Vaccination for seniors starts in Cebu City

CEBU CITY—The city started injecting coronavirus vaccines into seniors on Monday (April 19).

Dr. Jeffrey Ibones, chief of the city health department, said a schedule had been drawn for senior citizens to ensure that vaccine recipients could observe physical distancing.

The vaccination rollout was done at the University of Cebu-Banilad Campus and at the Robinsons Galleria Mall at the North Reclamation Area.

At least 88,000 senior citizens in Cebu City are eligible for vaccination and are on the list submitted by the city government to the regional office of the Department of Health (DOH).

The rollout of the program used Coronavac, the vaccine made by Chinese company Sinovac. Seniors from two villages—Mambaling and Mabolo—were the first to get injectd, according to Councilor Dave Tumulak.

He said the seniors were fetched from their villages to the vaccination sites and returned to their homes.
