DAGUPAN CITY – Six residents of Ilocos Sur, three of them elderly, died of COVID-19 from April 4-14, records show.
A 92-year old woman from Sta. Cruz town is the province’s oldest fatality, while the youngest was a 46-year-old man residing in Candon City.
COVID-19 also killed a 68-year-old man in Galimuyod town, a 52-year-old woman from Vigan City, a 78-year-old man living in Sta. Lucia town, and a woman of undisclosed age from Narvacan town.
Except for Galimuyod, the towns and cities from where the deaths were reported, are under a modified enhanced community quarantine that was enforced on April 7 and will end on April 21.
In a radio interview, Governor Ryan Luis Singson said the provincial government wanted the entire province to be placed under MECQ.
But the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases approved the MECQ only for 13 local government units out of its 32 towns and 2 cities.
As of April 15, the province has 269 active COVID-19 patients who are confined in different hospitals.
