State prosecutors recommend filing of criminal case vs Sandra Cam, son

MANILA, Philippines – State prosecutors have recommended the filing of a criminal case against Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office board member Sandra Cam and her son for the death of Batuan, Masbate vice mayor Charlie Yuson III in 2019.

The Office of the Prosecutor General said Cam and her son, Marcon Martin Cam, had been indicted for the murder of Yuson and frustrated murder for injuring Alberto Alforte IV.

Aside from the two, also indicted are the following: Nelson R. Cambaya, Junel Gomez alias Bunso, Bradford Solis, Juanito B. De Luna, and Rigor M. Dela Cruz.

“When considered in its entirety, the statements and evidence presented by the complainants are sufficient to establish probable cause for the conspiracy among all the respondents in the killing of Vice Mayor Charlie Yuson and the wounding of Alberto Alforte IV,” read a portion of the resolution, a full copy of which has yet to be released to the media.

Cam’s son Marco Martin lost to Yuson’s son, Charmax Jan Yuson, for Batuan’s mayoral race in the 2019 mid-term elections.

But the younger Yuson was soon jailed for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition and his father was named acting mayor until he was killed.

The NBI on February 23 last year filed the cases against the respondents and named Yuson’s widow, Lalaine, his brother Charlie Jr. and Alforte as complainants.

Yuson, Alforte, and another companion, Wilfredo Pineda were having breakfast when they were shot at. Alforte and Pineda survived the attack though both were injured. Cam has repeatedly denied any knowledge or involvement in the crime.
