BACOLOD CITY –– At least 25 of 214 newly committed inmates brought to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) male isolation facility in Barangay Handumanan in this city have tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

All those who got the virus were placed at the BJMP Ligtas COVID Center in Talisay City, said Jail Senior Supt. Gilbert Peremne, BJMP-Western Visayas assistant regional director.

Those who tested negative for COVID-19 were brought back to their respective jails in various parts of the province.

“The procedure is, before they are placed in their jails of origin, they need to be quarantined first for COVID-19 testing,” Peremne said.
