15 die of COVID-19 in Batangas; April death toll is 94

LUCENA CITY –– Batangas province has recorded 94 fatalities from coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the first two weeks of April after 15 more patients died on Wednesday, authorities reported.

The Provincial Health Office (PHO), reported April 14 that the deaths were from San Pascual, Balayan, and San Pascual towns, with three each; Lipa City with two; and Batangas City and Bauan, Calaca, Nasugbo, Rosario, San Juan, and Alitagtag towns with one each.

The death toll in the province is now 575.

The latest data showed that since January, 211 patients had died of the illness. At least 94 of them died from April 1 to 14. Last year, the province recorded 364 COVID-19 deaths.

The cities of Batangas and Lipa recorded the highest number of fatalities, with 105 each.

Batangas province, still under general community quarantine (GCQ) status until April 30, logged 19,156 COVID-19 cases since March last year, with an addition of 219 new virus carriers on April 14. At least 14,830 of them have recovered.

The province still has 3,751 sick patients, which was only 2,110 two weeks ago.

Lipa City remains on the top list of localities with 928 active cases, followed by Batangas City, 422, and Tanauan City, 299.

The province still has 2,156 active “suspects” cases and 60 “probable” ones.

Batangas Gov. Hermilando Mandanas has ordered the strict implementation of safety protocols to curb COVID-19 cases.

Mandanas also ordered more isolation facilities set up in strategic areas in the province to contain the spike of new cases. INQ
