Quirino province tightens border control as COVID-19 goes on a rampage

SANTIAGO CITY—The number of active COVID-19 cases in Quirino has jumped to 220 as of Tuesday (April 13), prompting officials to further tighten border control.

The province has listed 1,115 COVID-19 cases since 2020 with 24 new infections, health data showed.

Most of the active cases were found in the towns of Diffun, Saguday, Nagtipunan, Cabarroguis, Aglipay and Maddela.

At an online press briefing, Quirino Gov. Dakila Cua said the province will impose stricter measures compatible with modified enhanced community quarantine, the second most stringent form of quarantine in the Philippines.

Cua said only persons authorized and those rendering essential services would be allowed to leave their homes.

The province has also recorded 865 recoveries and 30 COVID-19 deaths.
