MANILA, Philippines — Total active COVID-9 cases in the country rose to 173,047 as the Department of Health (DOH) reported 8,122 new infections.
The new cases brought the country’s total COVID-19 cases to 892,880.
DOH data showed there were additional 501 recoveries, raising the number of patients who have survived the disease to 704,386. However, there were 162 additional patients who have died, bringing the death toll to 15,447.
The DOH said active cases represent 19.4 percent of the total count, while recoveries account for 78.9 percent and deaths make up 1.73 percent.
Of the active cases, 98.7 percent are mild and asymptomatic.
Meanwhile, 19.5 percent of the 39,796 individuals who were tested yielded positive COVID-19 test results.
The DOH said 25 duplicate entries, including 14 recoveries and one death, were removed from the case count, while 64 cases previously classified as recovered are now counted as deaths upon validation.
Twelve laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System on Tuesday.
The DOH earlier said that the lower COVID-19 cases is an “artificial decline” due to non-operational laboratories.
