WATCH: Teacher yells at students over distance learning complaints from parents

A high school teacher in California raised her voice at her students over their complaints on distance learning and their desire to go back to in-person schooling.

“If your parent wants to come talk to me about how I’m not doing a good enough job in distance learning based on what you need as an individual, just dare them to come out,” the teacher told her students over a Zoom call that was shown on Reopen California Schools’ Twitter account yesterday, April 12.

The teacher said she was getting “sick to her stomach” of parents trying to tell educators like her how to do their job. She then compared the scrutiny she is getting from the parents with going to a doctor’s appointment.

“I have never once gone to a doctor’s appointment and tried to tell my medical health provider how to treat me,” she said. “You know why? Because I know nothing about that. I didn’t get my degree in medicine.”

After a brief pause, she appeared to have calmed down and apologized to her students for raising her voice.

Currently, the school district where the teacher works is trying to reopen schools through a hybrid education system where students will attend small classes.

“This is a matter that we take very seriously and it is receiving our highest scrutiny,” interim superintendent Tiffany Campbell assured in a statement published on the school district’s website yesterday, April 12.

Since the matter is still under investigation, Campbell did not provide further details about the incident. She also said that the teacher has been placed on administrative leave and will be afforded due process. JB
