MANILA, Philippines — The active COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday, April 13, zoomed to 165,534 after the Department of Health (DOH) tallied 8,571 new cases.

DOH’s COVID-19 bulletin also showed 137 new disease-related deaths, taking the total to 15,286. On the other hand, 400 additional recovered patients bring the number to 703,963.

Since the health department started recording coronavirus infections, there have been 884,783 confirmed COVID-19 cases.

The majority of patients with active infections, 96.9 percent, continued to have only mild symptoms, while 1.8 percent were asymptomatic. At the moment, at least 0.5 percent of patients have severe symptoms, and 0.4 percent are in critical condition.

Of the 27,900 tests conducted on Monday, DOH said that 18.3 percent tested positive.  In terms of COVID-19 bed capacity in the National Capital Region, which is considered the epicenter of the latest surge, 85 percent of intensive care unit beds have been utilized while 70 percent of isolation beds are occupied.
