ZAMBOANGA CITY, Zamboanga del Sur –– A soldier and a civilian were wounded in an explosion in Tipo-Tipo town, Basilan Monday, April 12, a day before the start of the holy month of Ramadan.
Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan Jr., chief of the military’s Western Mindanao Command, said the roadside blast happened at 6:25 a.m. on Monday while troops from the Army’s 12th Division Reconnaissance Company were conducting mobile patrol in the village of Baguindan.
The blast was from an improvised bomb, Vinluan added.
The two wounded individuals were immediately given first aid and transferred to a hospital in Lamitan City for further medical treatment, Vinluan said.
“The victims are now in stable condition,” said Brig. Gen. Domingo Gobway, commander of the Army’s Joint Task Force Basilan.
“We continue to exhaust all efforts to assist the police in the conduct of the investigation to identify the perpetrators of the incident,” Gobway assured.
