6 more die from COVID-19 in Quezon province

LUCENA CITY –- Six more people died from coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Quezon, bringing the death toll in the province to 327, health authorities said.

The new fatalities are in Candelaria town, with three deaths and one each in Pagbilao, Real, and Burdeos towns, the Integrated Provincial Health Office reported at 5 p.m. on April 12.

At least 42 of the total recorded deaths in the province since the pandemic started last year were recorded this month.

Lucena, the capital city of Quezon, has the highest number of fatalities, with 72.

The province has been seeing an alarming spike in COVID-19 cases, with the addition of 75 new patients on Monday.

From April 1 to 12, a total of 829 new COVID-19 cases were recorded, exceeding the 825 cases in March. In February, 342 cases were listed.

As of April 12, Quezon, which is now under the general community quarantine until April 30, recorded 8,973 COVID-19 cases and 6,781 recoveries.

The province has 921 active cases from 597 on April 1. Lucena has the highest active cases with 107.

On April 11, Quezon Gov. Danilo Suarez has appealed for the public’s cooperation in following safety protocols to curb the rise in COVID-19 cases in the province.
