LUCENA CITY –– Batangas recorded 10 more fatalities from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), bringing the death toll in the province to 552 since the pandemic started in March last year, authorities said on Monday.
The Provincial Health Office (PHO), reported in its 3 p.m. April 12 bulletin the deaths of two COVID-19 patients each in Batangas City, Lipa City, and San Jose town. Four other confirmed virus carriers also succumbed to the dreaded illness in Sto. Tomas City and in the municipalities of Agoncillo, Nasugbu, and San Juan.
The latest data showed that 188 patients have died due to COVID-19 this year, with 51 of them recorded this April. Last year, the province recorded 364 COVID-19 deaths.
Batangas City, the provincial capital, has the highest number of fatalities with 104, followed by Lipa City with 103.
As of April 12, Batangas, under general community quarantine, had 18,697 COVID-19 patients since 2020. At least 14,538 of them have recovered.
The province has 3,607 active virus carriers. Lipa City has the highest active cases with 869, followed by Batangas City with 421 and Tanauan City, 284.
