MANILA, Philippines—Two alleged robbers were killed in a shootout with police in Manila after victimizing a taxi driver in Mandaluyong City before dawn Wednesday, police said.
Senior Police Officer 2 Virgo Villareal said that two still unidentified robbers, aged 18 to 25 years old, were killed in a firefight with police along Sta. Clara Street in Sta. Ana Manila around 3 a.m.
This was after a taxi driver, identified as Regente Gosalla, 56, went to Sta. Ana police station reporting to authorities that he was robbed by his two male passengers at the Lambingan Bridge in Mandaluyong, Villareal said. Gosalla was driving a Toyota Avanza with license plate PYK 298.
He said that Gosalla was unharmed but the P1,740 he earned was taken by the suspects, along with his wallet and some identification cards in it.
The looted items, however, were all found from one of the suspects’ pocket after they were killed in the encounter with police, along with a caliber .38 revolver and a caliber .22 pistol.
