DENR exec shot dead in Cagayan

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya — A lone gunman shot and killed a Department of Environment and Natural Resources official in Sanchez Mira, Cagayan, on Tuesday night, police said  Wednesday.

Senior Superintendent Mao Aplasca, Cagayan police director, said Melania Dirain, 46, a DENR forest specialist in Sanchez Mira, was attacked inside her office at the DENR compound in Barangay (village) Centro 2 at 7:45 p.m.

Aplasca said Dirain was talking to Isaias Cereniado, a DENR messenger, when a man barged into the office and repeatedly shot her.

Policemen found Dirain’s body on the floor beside her desk. She died from five bullet wounds in the chest.
