Security aide of Bulacan mayor dies of COVID-19

ANGAT, Bulacan — A close-in security aide of Mayor Leonardo De Leon of this town died on Sunday (April 11) after contracting the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), health officials said.

Police Staff Sgt. Joselito “Joy” Villarama, 49, a native of Baliwag town, passed away at dawn inside the Bulacan Infection Control Center (BICC) in City of Malolos, Dr. Protacio Bajao, director of the COVID-19 hospital, confirmed.

Villarama tested positive for COVID-19 on April 7 while the municipal hall was placed on a lockdown due to a virus outbreak.

He was admitted to the BICC on April 9 after experiencing difficulty in breathing.

Villarama had served the Philippine National Police for 22 years.
