THE people behind a Cebu City resto-bar known as a haven of musicians and music lovers are celebrating Independence Day by giving local independent artists a chance to show their work.
Sandy Kiamko, one of the owners of the Outpost, said they organized the five-day “Indie for Indie 2011” after foreseeing a fusion of independent filmmaking, performing arts, graphic arts and music.
“The idea has been there for the past three years or so, ever since we got in touch with filmmakers, graphic artists and friends from the performing arts. We have been talking about the fusion and we decided to make Independence Day our mark,” Kiamko said.
Today, the event will close with a mini-bazaar, an Independence Day bike ride and the screening of an Indie film at the
Outpost.
The mini-bazaar will sell and display works of local artists such as T-shirts, hand-painted bags and locally made
accessories.
Local bicycling groups will come together for an Independence Day Bike Ride around the city.
A full-length film “Baboyngirongbuang” by Keith Deligero will be shown at 9 p.m.
Among the films shown in the event are “Tam-is” (2011) by Ara Chawdhury, “Ang Katapusang Bagting”(2010) and “Kurtinang Pula” (2010) by Remton Zuasola, “Doktora” (2010) and “Di Na Lagi Mausab” 2009 by Christian Linaban.
Members of Performing Arts Kolektib “PAK!” were also given their chance to perform.
“PAK! is a loose group of friends. We’re not out to change the world. We are not saying, ‘Watch us, we’re good.’ We just love the performing arts and this is our style,” said Alex Uypangco.
Graphic artists have their niche in the
celebration.
“We are so happy that these artists easily agreed that we put up a show room for their works in the Outpost,” Kiamko said.
Among the visual arts contributors are Bart “Boy” Kiamko, Jethro Estimo, Katya Zialzita, Laurence Minoza, Francis Minoza, Maeng Sandiego, Lucile Umali, Govinda Trazo and Tambolbee.
“This is the first time that we have an integration of almost all media. After this Independence Day, we shall have a bigger venue for these independent artists,” Kiamko said.
