DepEd warns vs fake solicitations for virus-hit employees

SAN ANTONIO, Zambales — The regional office of the Department of Education (DepEd) in Central Luzon has cautioned the public against fraudulent solicitations for employees of the agency that were afflicted with the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

In an advisory issued on April 8, the DepEd said it received reports that some individuals were asking for monetary donations using the name of some of the agency’s regional officials.

But the DepEd clarified that it has only authorized the solicitation on a voluntary basis for COVID-19 victims who are from the Schools Division Office of Zambales.

It said these donations must be deposited only to a bank account of the treasurer of the Zambales Public School Teachers’ Association.

The DepEd asked the public to report to its office any unauthorized solicitation activities.

Last month, over 40 DepEd employees in Zambales contracted the virus after attending two separate seminars.
