Suspected NPA rebel slain in Camarines Sur clash

LEGAZPI CITY — A still unidentified suspected member of New People’s Army (NPA) was killed in an encounter with government troops in Lagonoy town in Camarines Sur province on Friday night, April 9.

Police Colonel Bernardo Perez, Camarines Sur police chief, said in a report that while conducting a combat operation, the 96th Infantry Batallion of Philippine Army had a firefight with at least five NPA rebels in Barangay Guibahoy at around 8 p.m.

The body of a rebel and an M16 rifle were recovered in the clash site by soldiers, Perez said. The other rebels fled.

No fatality was reported on the government side.
