MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) reported Friday the country’s biggest daily COVID-19 death toll at 401 as well as new infections of 12,225 that boosted nationwide active cases to 178,351.
The total number of fatalities from the new coronavirus disease is now at 14,520 while the tally of recovered patients reached 647,683, including the additional 946 who managed to survive the illness.
On April 2, the DOH reported the highest record for a single-day increase in COVID-19 cases with 15,310 new infections but this figure included 3,790 case backlogs.
To date, 840,554 people in the Philippines have contracted the new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which causes respiratory sickness COVID-19.
According to DOH, current active cases represent 21.2 percent of the case count while the number of recovered patients and deaths account for 77.1 percent and 1.73 percent, respectively. Also, 98.8 percent of active cases are mild and asymptomatic, it added.
Moreover, DOH said 21.4 percent of the 39,630 people who were tested for COVID-19 yielded positive results.
The DOH likewise said that 37 duplicate entries, including 18 recoveries, were removed from the caseload, while 213 cases that were previously tagged as recovered patients were reclassified as fatalities after validation.
It added that 10 laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System on Thursday.
