MANILA, Philippines — Former President Joseph Estrada’s medical condition “has steadily improved” as he appears to be “responding well” to COVID-19 treatment, one of his sons said Friday.

According to former Senator Jinggoy Estrada, doctors are now starting to “slowly wean” the former president “off ventilator support.”

“We are happy to report that my father seems to be responding well to treatment as his condition has steadily improved,” Jinggoy said in a Facebook post.

“His other organ functions remain stable,” he added.

Jinggoy, however, asked for continued prayers for his father’s recovery from “this devastating disease” and “that no new complications set back his progress.”

The former senator on March 29 revealed that his father tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, the new coronavirus causing COVID-19. On April 6, he said that his father’s pneumonia has “worsened” and that he was placed on mechanical ventilation.
