2 dead, 15 hurt in multiple vehicle crash in Quezon

LUCENA CITY –– Two persons were killed and 15 others injured after a wayward truck barreled into nine other vehicles along a busy road in Tayabas City in Quezon province Wednesday, April 7.

Executive Master Sergeant Elmer Maguiat, investigator at Tayabas police, said in a report that an Isuzu Elf Forward driven by Jeffrey Ferreras, 31, while negotiating the descending section of Quezon Avenue at the city center, crashed into the row of nine other vehicles ahead of him at 8:55 a.m.

The wayward truck subsequently crashed into a residential house on the roadside.

The police said Ferreras and his truck helper, Junathan Simballa, 44, suffered grave injuries and died on the way to the hospital.

The report said 12 drivers and passengers of the nine vehicles – six motorcycles, two cars, and a truck – suffered injuries and were taken to the Tayabas Community Hospital.

A pedestrian and two house occupants were also wounded.

The police said the truck lost its brakes that led to the fatal accident.
