Estrada in ‘stable’ condition, kidney ‘improving’

MANILA, Philippines — Former President Joseph Estrada, who has tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), is in “stable” condition as his kidney function improves, his son former senator Jinggoy  Estrada said Wednesday.

In a Facebook post, Jinggoy said the former president’s need for oxygen support is “also slowly getting better” while his vital organs are “functioning well.”

“As per updates from my fathers physicians, he continues to be in stable condition,” the former senator said.

“We were informed by his physicians that his inflammatory markers are on a downward trend for which we are thankful and hopefully this signals that his immune system is responding well,” he added.

Despite this, the younger Estrada asked the public to continue to pray for his father.

“We are praying that no new complications set in and that he continues to improve,” he said.

On Tuesday, the younger Estrada said his father’s pneumonia has “worsened” and that he was placed on mechanical ventilation “to improve oxygen delivery as well as to prevent the tiring of his respiratory mechanism.”

It was on March 29 when Jinggoy announced that his father tested positive for COVID-19.
