98 passengers offloaded from planes at start of Western Visayas travel ban

BACOLOD CITY—At least 98 passengers from Metro Manila and Cebu, bound for Negros Occidental, were offloaded from their planes on Monday (April 5) at the start of enforcement of the travel ban to Western Visayas.

Rayfrando Diaz, Negros Occidental provincial administrator, said 63 passengers from Metro Manila and 35 from Cebu province had to deplane.

Diaz said the provincial government had asked the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines to let two Philippine Airlines flights to proceed with their scheduled departure for Negros Occidental before the ban started. But the request was denied.

The national Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases had granted the request to suspend travel to Western Visayas from the National Capital Region and province of Bulacan, Cavite, Rizal, Cebu City and Davao City until April 10.
