Lipa City records 69 new COVID-19 cases

LUCENA CITY –– Lipa City in Batangas province recorded 69 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases on Monday, April 5.

Mayor Eric Africa reported on social media at 4 p.m. that the new virus carriers include 11 senior citizens, six males, and five females, aged between 60 and 90 years old.

A 10-year-old boy and two girls, both 12 years old, also contracted the highly contagious virus.

From April 1 to 5, Lipa logged 302 new COVID-19 cases based on the mayor’s reports.

As of April 5, records from the Batangas provincial health office showed that Lipa still had 605 active cases, which were only 449 on April 1.

The city also recorded 26 deaths due to COVID-19 this year.

On March 21, the city government posted on its Facebook page advisories from three major hospitals – the Lipa Medix Medical Center, Mary Mediatrix Medical Center, and Metro Lipa Medical Center – that the beds allotted for COVID-19 patients have reached capacity.

The medical facilities advised the public to bring suspected COVID-19 cases to other hospitals.

Lipa remains under general community quarantine.
