BORONGAN CITY, Eastern Samar—The national government has turned over 500 housing units for victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda in Sta. Fe town, Leyte province and 338 in Balanginga town, Eastern Samar province.

Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles recognized the efforts of the National Housing Authority (NHA) and others in the government who showed dedication to complete the project despite the challenges of COVID-19.

About seven years since Yolanda hit Eastern Visayas, the Inter-agency Task Force for the Unified Implementation and Monitoring of Rehabilitation and Recovery Projects and Programs in Yolanda Affected Areas has turned over a total of 17,955 houses in various cities and towns in the region.

Nograles said the Duterte administration will complete all Yolanda housinh projects before the 2022 elections. According to the NHA, 37,414 of the planned 53,038 housing units for Eastern Visayas were completed in October 2020.

Yolanda, considered as one of the world’s most catastrophic storms, caused major damage in the Visayas, mainly in Samar and Leyte provinces, and killed nearly 6,300 people.
