10 new COVID-19 cases reported in Calapan City; 22 in Occidental Mindoro
CITY OF CALAPAN – A total of ten new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases were reported on Friday, April 2, by the City Health and Sanitation Department in Calapan City in Oriental Mindoro, while twenty-two new cases of the viral illness were also listed in Occidental Mindoro.
Six of the new cases in this city are elderly people. Four of them were women, with ages 75 (from Barangay San Vicente East), 65 (from Barangay Patas), 62 (Barangay Pachoca) and 74 (Barangay Camilmil). The remaining two were men, aged 68 (Barangay Masipit) and 61 (Barangay Bulusan).
The other cases are those of two healthcare workers — a 31-year-old woman from Barangay Tawagan, and a 24-year-old man from Barangay Lalud; a 31-year-old man from Barangay Pachoca and a 30-year-old woman from Barangay Camilmil.
Four recoveries were also reported, two men with ages 26 and 52, and two women with ages 60 and 62.
Since the pandemic started last year, the city has logged in 861 COVID-19 cases, 84 of which are active, 763 recoveries, and 14 deaths.
Calapan Mayor Arnan Panaligan temporarily ordered the closure of access to beaches and other recreational facilities within accommodation establishments and inland resorts in this city from April 1 until April 4, Easter Sunday, in a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19.
Meanwhile, Occidental Mindoro province listed 22 new COVID-19 cases – 15 females and seven males – also on Friday, April 2, the Provincial Health Office said.
Ten cases are from San Jose town, six are from Mamburao, two are from Rizal, three from Sablayan town and one from Paluan town. The youngest among the new cases is a 9-year-old girl, while the oldest are a 72-year-old man and woman. Sixteen of them are asymptomatic.
Five recoveries were also reported, four of which are women.
The province has logged a total of 455 cases, with 74 active cases, 367 recoveries and 14 deaths since March last year.
As of April 2, Mamburao town has the highest COVID cases at 26, followed by San Jose at 23 and Lubang island town at 13.
In Mamburao, the infection at the provincial hospital was a major factor in the increase in the COVID cases.
In Lubang, returning residents significantly contributed to the increase in the COVID cases.
San Jose town Mayor Romulo Festin ordered temporary closure of all beaches and resorts from April 1 to 4 and a 14-day closure extension of Aroma beach with restriction on dine-in restaurants and food stalls until April 14.
