Lamitan, Basilan police chief found dead inside quarters

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Zamboanga del Sur –– The police chief of Lamitan City in Basilan was found dead with a gunshot wound on the head inside his quarters on Wednesday evening.

Corporal Mohammad Macala said Major Dennis Sirilan was found lying on a mattress in a police staff house in Calugusan village around 8:45 p.m.

The bullet wound, according to the report, could have been self-inflicted.

“We are really saddened about the news. He served here for over a year and his performance was very satisfactory. He was set for his new assignment after his relief last month,” Lamitan City Vice Mayor Roderick Furigay said.
