DAGUPAN CITY—At least 23 members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Special Unit in Tayug town, Pangasinan province had tested positive for SARS Cov2, the coronavirus that causes COVID-19, authorities said on Wednesday (March 31).
The policemen, assigned to the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Unit in Camp Narciso R. Ramos, were believed to have been infected by a COVID-19 patient from another province.
Eighteen of the policemen did not show symptoms while five had mild symptoms like colds, cough and sore throat.
The policemen had been tested in Camp Narciso Ramos by the provincial health office last March 26. Results came out four days later on March 30.
Nationwide, according to PNP figures, the number of policemen and non-uniformed PNP employees infected with coronavirus has reached 14,676. At least 2,183 are on quarantine in PNP and local government facilities while 62 are in hospitals. At least 37 had already died.
