CAMP GENERAL ALEJO S SANTOS, Bulacan –– More than 400 policemen, Army reservists, and village watchmen were deployed to major roads in the province on Monday as the weeklong Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) started.
Bulacan police director Col. Lawrence Cajipe said the Bureau of Fire would also augment the border personnel.
At least 42 control points were put up along the borders that Bulacan shares with Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, and Metro Manila.
Cajipe said the checkpoints were necessary to stem the tide of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infections in the province and prevent transmission from its neighboring areas.
He said only authorized persons and those providing basic services, essential goods, and utilities could enter and exit the province.
Over the weekend, Bulacan’s COVID-19 tally rose to 16,696 with 2,753 active, 506 deaths and 13, 437 recoveries.
