Despite the return to lockdown of Metro Manila and surrounding provinces, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) will stick to its March 31 deadline for political parties and party list groups to register to participate in the May 9, 2022, elections. James Jimenez, spokesperson for the Comelec, said parties may email their petitions to clerkofthecommission@comelec.gov.ph by 5 p.m. of March 31. But they will also have to send by registered mail or courier service the hard copies of all their filings together with the official receipts of required fees by March 31. The commission said earlier the filing of certificates of candidacy will proceed in October.
