ILOILO CITY — Two sub-villages on Boracay Island have been placed on lockdown for two weeks following a surge of COVID-19 cases.
The lockdown on Zones 5 and 6 in Barangay Balabag, one of three villages on the 1,032-hectare island, affects 31 hotels and resorts as well as residential areas, and it will be effective until April 10.
On Sunday, the local government of Malay town in Aklan where the island-resort is located advised tourists to limit their movement until they can be issued quarantine passes.
Tourists who have reservations in hotels and resorts in the restricted area have been advised to transfer their booking to other accommodation establishments.
Residents in the affected areas are restricted to their homes except for authorized persons and those going out for emergency purposes.
The operation of bars on the island has also been suspended, as well as that of food parks and restaurants with live shows and bands.
