Bicol anti-drug operations: Village chief killed, 4 arrested

LEGAZPI CITY—A village chief was killed while four other suspects were arrested in a series of operations by police to serve search warrants in two Bicol provinces—Camarines Sur and Albay—on Friday (March 26).

Maj. Louie de la Peña, chief of community affairs development of the Camarines Sur police, said Elmer Casabuena, 50, the village chief of Nino Jesus in Iriga City, was killed when he fired at police officers serving a search warrant for drugs and guns at his house around 1 a.m.

De la Peña said Casabuena was tagged as a high-value target and was on a drug watch list.

In Calabanga town, Allan Aguila Sr., 50, was arrested in another search operation in Barangay Paolbo around 7:30 a.m.

Maj. Jonnel Averilla, chief of Calabanga police, said policemen seized a .38 caliber revolver and 19 small packets of shabu, or crystal meth, from Aguila, said to be a big-time pusher.

In Goa town, Pedro Combes Jr. was arrested at Barangay Pinaglabanan around 10:28 a.m.

Maj. Jeric Don Sadia, chief of Goa police, said the operating team seized a caliber several guns, magazines and bullets from Combes.

In Albay, two suspects were also arrested in separate search operations, said Maria Luisa Calubaquib, spokesperson of the Bicol police, in a report.

In Tabaco City, Roberto Sabariza, 35, was arrested at Barangay Cormidal around 2:10 a.m. Seized from him was a loaded caliber .38 revolver.

Around 5:50 a.m., Guillermo Nunez Jr. was arrested at  Barangay Banadero in Daraga town. A loaded caliber .38 revolver was seized from the suspect.
