MANILA, Philippines — Pope Francis appointed on Thursday Cardinal Jose Advincula of Capiz as the new archbishop of Manila, according to the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines.

Advincula, born on March 30, 1952 in Dumalag town, was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Capiz in 1976.

According to CBCP, the 68-year-old cardinal studied psychology at the De La Salle University of Manila, and canon law at the Pontifical and Royal University of Santo Tomas of Manila and at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas-Angelicum in Rome.

In October last year, Pope Francis named Advincula among 13 new cardinals. The CBCP said he was elevated at a consistory on November 28 last year.
