Southwest towns incur damages
Several towns in southwest Cebu took the brunt of yesterday’s earthquake in the island.
Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia said at least six towns were affected and reported damage still to be fully assessed.
In Badian town, the church’s bell tower was partly damaged.
Stones were also seen rolling and falling from the Kawasan Falls.
In Ronda town, the mainline of the water system placed in front of Botika Henry in barangay Poblacion exploded.
Several landslides hit roads in barangays Valencia and Madridejos in Alegria town.
A water system in Valencia town was damaged while another landslide hit sitio Anican in barangay Bato in Sibonga town.
Rep. Pablo John Garcia of Cebu’s 3rd district said all roads and bridges were being cleared by the Department of the Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 3rd Engineering District.
Cracks was also seen in some infrastructures.
In Boljoon town, the cracks could be seen on the church’s walls. The town council building showed cracks after the earthquake.
In Moalboal town, police assisted in the evacuation of coastal communities.
PO1 Melvin Delica of the Moalboal police said residents reported seeing the sea level ising six meters from the coast.
A tsunami alert level 2 was raised by Phivolcs after the earthquake.
The alert cautions coastal dwellers to move away from the sea and to observe the wave action. No evacuation is needed.
A 7year-old was rushed to the Badian district hospital after being hit by a multi-cab inside an elementary school in barangay Bogo, Moalboal.
Residents of barangay Bas Diot and other coastal barangays were evacuated to mountain barangays in Bogo and Lanao.
Provincial Board (PB) Member Peter John Calderon said his brother, Samboan Mayor Raymond Calderon reported that yesterday’s earthquake was the ‘strongest’ they had experienced. /Carmel Loise Matus, Correspondent
