Fake NPA member nabbed over extortion try in Nueva Vizcaya

SANTIAGO CITY –– A 39-year-old fake New People’s Army member was arrested in an entrapment operation after trying to extort P60,000 from a businesswoman in Solano town, Nueva Vizcaya province on Monday, March 22, the police said.

The suspect was identified as Romuel Salmos, 39, of Barangay Bonfal Proper in Bayombong town.

His victim sought the help of local police after he reportedly demanded the amount as a revolutionary tax.

Salmos also allegedly asked the victim to check-in at a hotel, investigators said.

Salmos yielded 60 pieces of the P1,000-boodle money and 15 sachets of suspected shabu (crystal meth).

Salmos awaits charges of violating the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and robbery through extortion.
