Construction worker stabbed to death over missing lighter in Puerto Princesa

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY –– A 23-year-old construction worker was stabbed to death by his co-worker after a drunken altercation over a missing lighter in this city Wednesday.

The victim, Ronel Macemap, 23, was stabbed by suspect Roy Laspinas, 21, at the third floor of a building they were constructing at Delos Reyes Road 1 in Barangay San Pedro at 12:15 a.m., according to a police report.

Barangay tanod (village watchman) chief and first responder Marlon Arias said the victim borrowed a lighter that had “sentimental value” from the suspect while in a drinking session.

An altercation between the two ensued after the lighter was “misplaced,” which led to the stabbing incident.

Police arrested Laspinas, who will undergo an inquest proceeding for the crime of murder.
