P45M smuggled cigarettes from China seized

MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) have seized two containers filled with P45 million worth of smuggled cigarettes from China at Manila International Container Port (MICP).

Alvin Enciso, chief of MICP’s customs intelligence and investigation service, said the shipment was declared as 711 cartons of bicycles and folding tables. But on inspection, agents from the BOC found cigarettes, including Fortune Menthol 100s, in the containers.

The shipment, which was consigned to JDR General Merchandise arrived at MICP on March 15 from Shenzen, China.
