Paref Springdale erases huge lead, trounces CIE
THE PAREF Springdale Titans came all the way back from a double-digit deficit to tame the Center for International Education, 48-42, during the first day of competition in the inaugural staging of the Private Schools Development League at the Cebu Doctor’s University gym at the North Reclamation Area.
The Titans stared at a 10-point deficit at the end of the first period but recovered well in the ensuing canto behind the efforts of guard and also champion karter, Juan Antonio “Tonyo” Carcel, who showed that he was just as skilful on the basketball floor as he is on the race track. He was also joined on the offensive by Ace Gochuan, Zach Go and Carlo Diola.
That very same group also conspired with one another for the game deciding run in the final stanza that helped the Titans log their first win of the competition.
In other results in the high school division, the Mt. Olive Christian Academy handily defeated the St. Francis of Assisi School to the tune of 63-33 while Cebu Cherish School blasted the St. Louis School of Mandaue, 54-35. The San Isidro Parish School also got past the St. Paul, 69-36.
In the elementary competition, PAREF-Springdale made it a successful weekend in basketball for them as they beat the SIPS, 28-23.
The high school division will adapt a single round-robin format in the eliminations while the elementary class will have a double round-robin one. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
