A man was arrested for stabbing his wife’s boyfriend to death, after police found him stuck in a neighbor’s chimney when he tried to escape.

Police responded to a report of a stabbing at a home in Arkansas last Friday, March 19. When they arrived, they noticed a man running away from the residence, according to a release by Forrest City Police Department on its official Facebook page, March 20. Upon entering the home, they found 28-year-old Jimmie Rogers’ lifeless body.

The victim had multiple stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

When police talked to neighbors, they discovered that the suspect was Elliott Stewart, husband of the home’s current occupant. Police said that the evidence they gathered early into their investigation indicated that the crime was “committed by a husband on a current boyfriend.”

They started searching the area and urged witnesses to call their investigative division to help in tracking down Stewart. As they were searching, they received a call from a neighboring homeowner who said someone was stuck in his chimney.

The homeowner said he did not know the person stuck in the chimney, so he let the police in to investigate.

When officers looked in the chimney, they identified the man stuck in it as Stewart. They rescued the suspect and treated his injuries before they arrested him for first-degree murder, endangering the welfare of a minor, trespassing and second-degree criminal mischief.

Stewart is being held in jail with a bond of $1 million. JB
