MANILA, Philippines — The daily increase in COVID-19 cases in the country remained at the 7,000 level after the Department of Health (DOH) recorded 7,757 new infections on Sunday.

Sunday marks the third consecutive day that the country registered over 7,000 new COVID-19 cases. The Philippines previously recorded 7,103 cases on Friday, and 7,999 cases on Saturday.

Data from the DOH also showed that there were 15,288 recoveries. These brought down the number of active infections to 73,072.  The total number of recoveries is now at 577,754, while the total case count is at 663,794.

However, 39 new deaths also pushed the death toll to 12,968.

DOH data also showed that most of the patients or 95.0 percent of active cases only experienced mild symptoms, while 2.3 percent were asymptomatic.  Another 1.1 percent of the patients currently have severe symptoms while 1.0 percent are in critical condition.

Despite the high numbers, two laboratories still failed to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS), the DOH said.

DOH also noted that 19 duplicate entries were removed from the total case count, 16 of which are recoveries and one death.  Also, two recoveries were reclassified as deaths after a final validation.
