PNP records 36th death from COVID-19

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police recorded on Saturday the death of another police officer due to COVID-19, bringing the total number of fatalities in the police force to 36.

Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, officer in charge of the PNP, said the latest fatality was a 39-year-old pregnant policewoman, assigned to Valenzuela City’s scene of the crime operatives team. She tested positive on March 12, and died on March 20, along with her unborn child.

A 54-year-old police colonel, assigned in the National Capital Region Police Office, also died on Thursday at V. Luna Medical Center in Quezon City. As of Friday, the PNP logged 1,239 active cases, of which 171 are new cases, raising the total to 13,331.
