DOJ logs 17 more COVID-19 cases; total at 34

MANILA, Philippines—The number of active COVID-19 cases at the Department of Justice has doubled, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra announced on Friday.

From 17 on Thursday, he said there were additional 17 new cases. The new cases were all personnel from the Witness Protection Program (WPP).

“The new ones are housed in one building only. They are asymptomatic except for one, and they have all been isolated,” Guevarra said.

With the doubling number of active cases, Guevarra said he is alarmed.

“We may have to extend the temporary lockdown of the DOJ premises unless the rising transmission rate is arrested,” he said.

The DOJ main office in Manila is on lockdown until Tuesday. Guevarra has yet to make another announcement on how many days the lockdown will be extended.
